4 Practical Ways to Trust God During Uncertainty
During uncertain times, it is part of our human nature to begin to worry and become fearful. It is during these times especially that God calls on us, as His children, to trust in Him. He is a good Father and knows what is best for us. He will not leave us or forsake us. Let’s try some practical daily applications, 4 Practical Ways to Trust God During Uncertainty, that will aide us in putting our trust and faith in Him.
#1 Lean not on your own understanding
Our first of the 4 Practical Ways to Trust God During Uncertainty is to “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” (Proverbs 3:5). We live in a world where people have to earn our trust. We do not give our trust away freely. We have been conditioned to question the intentions of those around us, and to be uncertain of the validity of their actions.
Most of us have experienced disappointments, which have taught us that we can only depend upon ourselves. The world tells us we have to be strong and independent, but the Bible tells us the opposite. God’s word teachers the opposite! God word’s teaches us to rely on God. “For I, the Lord, your God, hold your right hand; it is I who say to you, Fear not, I am the one who helps you.” (Isaiah 41:13)
Sometimes trusting God completely can be difficult. So, each day we must consciously set aside plans and make the time to practice putting our trust and faith in Him. So, what better way to do that than to spend time in prayer!
The Bible defines faith as “the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” (Hebrews 11:1)
Merriam Webster’s definition of faith is “the belief in something for which no proof exists.” And continued the definition as defining faith as “the belief and trust in God.”
Looking at the dictionaries definition of faith, we can see that faith is derived from the word trust. Therefore, if we can focus and commit to increasing our trust in God, our faith in God will ultimately expand exponentially!
Merriam Webster’s definition of trust is “firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone or something.”
So, trust means believing in someone’s character, strength or truth. It also means having confidence that the person is good and honest without having any intent in harming us.
Therefore, based on the above definitions, we can deduce that trust is developed as we interact and get to know someone better. Ultimately, we can only believe in someone’s character by getting to know them, interacting with them, spending time with them.
That leads us to our next of the 4 Practical Ways to Trust God During Uncertainty application, putting God first!
#3 Put God First as one of the 4 Practical Ways to Trust God During Uncertainty
How do we put God first in our lives? We spend time in His word. We read our Bible! (Romans 10:17), “So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.” Our quiet time with the Lord will transform our lives. It will build a relationship with Him, and the closer we draw to Him, the more of Him we will desire. How do we build closer relationships with the people around us? We spend time with them! We get to know their character, and eventually we develop trust in them.
When was the last time any of us stopped and reflected on how we are using our time? Have we been putting Him first with our time? Do we dedicate time every day to scripture reading and prayer, or do we spend our time watching TV or on Social Media sites? By spending time in scripture, God will give us the peace we are looking for. His word will comfort us.
#4 Keep a Journal
The last of the 4 Practical Ways to Trust God During Uncertainty is to keep a journal of every time God answers a prayer in our life. Each time God fulfills a promise in His Word, write it down. Every time He brings about something good in our life, write it down. Every time he answers a prayer we have asked Him, write it down.
Don’t rely on our memory. Create written evidence of our requests and our praises, so that we can visually see how God moves in our life. I John 5:14-15, “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.”. Build our trust and faith in Him based on His truths in our life. Give ourselves something to look back on, actual proof that God can and should be trusted.
